Why is it important to get checked after an auto accident?
So Dr. Harcourt, "I was in an accident this week and I feel pretty good so do I really need to be checked?"
If you like taking undo risks and shouldering the burden of health services in the future for which proper coverage you purchased already sounds good to you then possibly you may elect to avoid choosing the recommended course of getting checked.
In the state of Florida, you have 14 days after the accident occurred to get checked by a health care provider or you lose your health benefits covereage under the PIP portion of your auto policy.
Keep in mind that it it is very common for whiplash symptoms to show up 1-3 months after the accident. If you elect to avoid getting checked in the 14 days after your auto accident you essentially give up your coverage for health care under PIP in your policy (generally $10,000 coverage if you have an EMC).
Above and beyond the coverage part you stand to lose strength, range of motioin, activity of daily living function or even worse potential permanent nerve damage.
