When you have pain, you tend to move that part of your body much less. Some patients even use braces and splints to reduce movement almost completely. While this can be necessary for a few patients in the short term, over time it just makes the muscles inflexible and progressively weaker. This can lead to a vicious cycle producing even greater pain, which makes you move less. This cycle needs to be broken in order to regain function again.

As the median nerve runs from the cervical spine, through the shoulder, and down the arm, it passes through different tissues that are all capable of putting pressure on said nerve. When this occurs, symptoms like pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand and wrist—the textbook symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome—can manifest, even if there is no issue in the wrist.

But which exercises work best? Are there some exercises that cause more harm than good? If your median nerve is severely pinched, a stretching exercise could cause the nerve itself to become damaged. The idea is to get the nerve to move freely without stretching the actual nerve.

If you are performing exercises that do not seem to help, this could be one aspect of your condition that is being overlooked. Problems affecting the median nerve as it exits the neck can make it more likely to cause problems elsewhere. Sometimes the nerve is not just tightened at the wrist but is also pinched at the neck where it exits through tiny holes between the vertebrae. If the nerve is constricted at both the neck and wrist, it is referred to as double-crush syndrome.

Your doctor of chiropractic can assist you with obtaining an accurate diagnosis of your problem, which may include a detailed neck examination. Good care begins with an accurate diagnosis. Simply covering up your pain with strong medications may not be the most sensible approach over the long term because of common unintended side effects.

So, if you are experiencing pain in my wrist (yours), numbness or paresthesia, hand weakness, and carpal tunnel symptoms and you type in pain management near me or chiropractor near me, you may find Coast Chiropractic Centers with Dr. Timothy Harcourt, me, comes up.

You may wonder, “Do I need an MRI scan of my neck or wrist.”?

What is carpal tunnel syndrome and who can help near you?

You may have a “funny feeling like a numbness frequently called paresthesia. Even a handshake may be painful or weak.  Some people around your area have prescribed chemicals that may temporarily reduce the numbness but not fixing the problem. The numbing in the fingers can be annoying and even debilitating.

You may want to see a study on chiropractic effectiveness for carpal tunnel such as this one:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8046280/

Also, if you feel arm pain it may indicate things are getting worse and may indicate a bulge on the disc or worse yet a herniated disc in your neck. Persistent or worsening pain intensity and/or frequency necessitates a visit to see a professional in your area.

If you would like to avoid getting carpal tunnel in the first place or to take a proactive approach to your health and wellness nearby, our membership program called Club C may be just the thing for you with great cost savings, convenience, and even more importantly, a plan to get your health back and keep it.
