Soft Collar Use For Whiplash Injury

Whiplash.jpg

Study after study is clear that the broad application of soft collar administration for whiplash causes more disability and prolongs recovery.  The quicker your chiropractic physician can get you into an intensive healing phase without the use of soft collars or other dependency promoting appliances and into active strengthening the better off you will be in general terms.

Intensive Healing Phase Treatment:

1. Diowave Class IV Laser treatment promotes quicker and deeper healing of tissue injured by your whiplash injuries such as ligaments, muscles, tendons, discs, and nerves

2. Chiropractic manipulation promotes an increase in range of motion and dynamic healing properties within your ligaments, muscles, tendons, discs, and nerves

Strengthening/Balance/Coordination treatment

This is really critical to get your function back.  Be sure to use a chiropractic physician who has the full capacity and actually uses these procedures based on the current research within their protocols.

The short story is don't get "hooked" on using soft collars as they will likely hold your recovery back and may indeed complicate your full recovery.  Moving to active strengthening, balance, and coordination treatment is critical to getting your function back.

In my office we follow the above protocols.  The short story is, call as soon as possible to reduce your chance of permanent disability.  If you end up with permanency we can effectively document it objectively in your medical record for posterity reasons.
